The countdown begins

The countdown begins. I am about to publish my first eBook on Everyday Delights.  The book is called “Documenting a 100 Happy Day Project” which is a compilation of posts from my first blog in 2015. That original blog site has now disappeared. This book is a two part compilation of those stories and high-quality photographs from 2015 written for the blog. The story is shared two parts: the first 25 days and then the next 75 days. You will have to read the book to find out why! It launches on 31st August.

Some back story

In 2014, someone on the 365 project asked people to join in a 100 Happy Days challenge asking “Can you be happy for 100 days?” More people joined in than I thought and I was one of them. The purpose? The 100 Happy Days site says:

We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, is the base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being.

I thought it was a wonderful idea, I wanted to give it a go as I believe in positivity and finding daily things to be happy about! I’m not so good at being in the moment, so I thought this might help me to be. I finished the challenge.

In 2015, I hosted the same challenge again on the 365 project as the previous one really encouraged me to find something good in every day that I could take a photo of and post. This time though, I resolved that I would share my photos and the story on a blog, which I started at the same time.

I stayed with the challenge and mostly managed to take and post a photo on the day it was intended for and keep the blog going too. I had a few lapses with illness and overwork, but I was OK with that. I felt that I was aware of being more thankful/grateful for the little things every day as I had to consciously look for things that made me happy. So much happened locally in the first 50 days that tried its best to get me down, but with the help of writing for the blog and the broader challenge I managed to stay ‘up’ – just!

Why publish a book?

My first thoughts were that it would be good to have all the posts in one place, especially now that the blog site has gone. But when I started compiling the posts, I realised that they tell a thought-provoking story of 2015 from a man-in-the-street’s point of view. I live in a small university town. The posts were written during some disruptive times for Higher Education in South Africa with a lot of social unrest by the young people about university fees. So, many of the posts are musings on my struggle to stay positive and how I dealt with things beyond my control. Others are purely about taking delight in the every day that was offered if I cared to look for it.

So while this is a 100-day snapshot of my life, it could be the same snapshot of anyone living in my small town at the time.

In the lead up to the launch, I will be posting regularly about the book and sharing snippets and extras with you. I hope you will join me!
