5 minutes with sunlight and a glass bowl

Five minutes with a glass bowl and morning sunlight. This post is for the Regular Random tag (see the end of the post for more details).

Good morning.

It’s 6:30am on a Sunday – way to early to be awake. However, I was rewarded for being awake early with gorgeous light coming in the window from the side. You can see it catching the glass bowl and vase on the window sill here.

I was writing my Morning Pages. I stopped writing and leaped out of bed to capture the light on the bowl before the elusive light disappeared behind the looming clouds.

First off, a tight crop on the bowl to accentuate the stunning shadows to the left of it. Can you see the peacock feather shape in the shadow?

The strong directional light seems to bring the bowl to life! It almost vibrates with energy.

Next a pile of books under the bowl provide some unusual shapes and reflections. I can see where the squiggly reflections come from. But, look at the semi-circular shape edged with an white and an orange hue. Where does that come from?

Then a shot against the light, silhouetting the spoons, both of which are from a South African designer called Carrol Boyes. The trees behind the bowl are perfectly distorted through the glass and give the bowl an amazing green hue.

Finally, saving my favourite one until last. Another book underneath the bowl adds a reddish tinge and letters to the spoons. And script like symbols in the parts of the bowl that are clear. A whole mini-universe to explore.

Wow – the magic of light and reflections on glass never fails to blow me away.

Now, I can get back to my writing.
