It is so tempting when visiting formal botanical gardens to take photographs of the flowers – they are after all the most eye catching and visually pleasing aspect of the gardens.
And I did that the other day when I visited Kew Gardens in London for the very first time. I have loads of pics of poppies, aliums, thistles – you name it. But for this post, I wanted to do things a little differently. In fact, on the day, I decided that I wanted to pay attention to the shapes and patterns that I saw in the buildings and non-flowering plants.
I couldn’t decide whether to use colour or black and white images. For now, I have gone with colour for the plants. There may well be some black and white in a future post.

This image of a palm leaf, is my favourite one from the day – it just seems to glow!

There was so much to see, and even after 5 hours of walking, we still only explored the edges of the gardens and didn’t spend a lot of time in the greenhouses. Lots and lots of opportunities for another visit!

I love these shot! I was taking exactly the same shots in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens this morning but mine haven’t come out quite as good as yours! I love the light and the symmetry.

Hi there! Wow, thank you for your kind words. I think I was lucky with the light, as most of them were taken inside the light was diffused, there were less harsh shadows from direct light, which can play havoc with patterns.

I’m so out of the loop at the moment. Are you doing a square theme this month?

I have also been out of the loop, in fact was off the scene for nearly all of May so have postponed squares to July. So don’t worry you have not missed anything.
The theme is blue, and my announcement only appeared at the weekend so you are asking at the perfect time 🙂
