Continuing the detail theme
So, yesterday I spoke about being an holistic photographer and that I’m all about shapes, lines, shadow, texture, pattern, reflection. I’m continuing with recent images I’ve taken using these detail elements as a mini-theme this week.
Shadow shapes
Flowers and plants have fascinating life cycles. Poppies (breadseed or opium poppy, Papaver somniferum) are no exception – we all know that some species end up as opium, as they contain “narcotic alkaloids which are the active compounds of opium and many refined opiates, such as morphine and codeine. Somniferum – meaning “sleep bringing” in Latin – refers to the narcotic properties of the plant”. [Source]
Anyway, moving on – once poppies have shown us their glorious colour and fragility during their flowering phase, they turn into amazingly strong shapes with cute little “haircuts” on top.
Yesterday I was lucky enough to spot and capture the shadows that the “haircuts” made on the pod itself. Wow! The combination of the clean, clear shape and the cast shadows knocked my socks off.
Can you see them?
