and patience

I’ve come to learn that taking pics of insects requires patience and a calm energy! I set my camera to the Action setting (multiple frames and a tracking focus point) and then just stand quite still next to the insect until it settles. Then I raise the camera slowly and get the focus point on the insect and wait for it to move. Go!

This sequence of butterfly wings in varying stages of openness was captured like this.

This is also when I wish I had a dedicated macro lens. Sigh.
